Discover How Cold Laser Therapy from our Altamonte Springs Veterinarian Could Help Your Pet

We take pride in our veterinary clinic's name, and we mean it when we say that we're committed to providing Animal Healing Solutions for all our furry patients! Our Atlamonte veterinarian team happily offers a range of affordable and non-invasive services, including cold laser therapy, a technology that's been used successfully for animals and humans for decades.

Cold Laser Therapy

What Is Cold Laser Therapy?

Laser technology has many uses in medicine and rehabilitation. Unlike laser beams that can be used to make incisions during surgery, cold laser therapy is completely non-invasive. Instead of heating or cutting tissue, cold laser light, also known as low level light, simply triggers biological healing changes in the target tissue.

These biological changes, induced through a process known as photobiomodulation, include increased blood flow, cellular metabolism, mitochondrial activity, and tissue repair.

Veterinary Conditions Treated with Cold Laser Therapy

Organizations such as the American Kennel Club recognize cold laser therapy as an effective healing solution for a variety of conditions facing our cats and dogs, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Muscle strains
  • Ligament sprains
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Hot spots and ear infections
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Post-trauma or post-surgical pain

Cold laser therapy can gently penetrate the skin without leading to any cuts or incisions whatsoever. That's why it can be used so effectively for several different conditions.

What Happens During a Cold Laser Therapy Session

Cold laser light is emitted from a hand held device that can be held over a specific area of your pet's body. During a session, your pet will be able to sit, lie, or stand in a comfortable position while our Altamonte veterinarian directs the laser beam on the target treatment area. Sessions typically last 5 to 15 minutes and optimal results are typically seen after a few weeks of twice-weekly treatments.

Of course, the exact plan of care depends on your animal, and additional services we offer can accelerate and enhance the pain relieving effects of cold laser therapy.
